Parish Nursing

Historically faith communities have looked after health needs. With modern goverment health policy, healthcare was been taken care of by the secular world. Parish nursing was developed to re-establish the ministry of health within the faith community (Anderson, 2004).

It is a relatively new area of nursing. Parish nursing was developed in the 1980's by Reverend Granger Westberg. The parish nurse role encompasses the whole person, meaning mind, body and spirit (Brudenell, 2003).
